Requirements of Skill for a successfull career

A man was traveling on the highways. Being alone in his super luxury car he was driving the car and enjoying the ride. Suddenly the engine jerked a bit and car got stopped. The man could not understand what happened and could not think what to do further. As car mechanism was not his cup of tea he started to wonder for a mechanic on that lonely road. There was a small hut almost 100-150 meters away from the point where the car was standing. The man went there and fortunately he found a person over there who claimed he knows mechanics and can help him if required.

The mechanic came to see the car. He opened up the cover of the engine. After examining for a while the men bought a hammer from his hut and hit the engine on a specific point and asked the person to try starting the car. Eureka!! The car got started without trouble and engine kept running without brilliantly. The man thanked the mechanic and asked for the charges. Mechanic asked to pay 1000 Indian Rupees for the service and job done.

Though it was not a trouble for man he argued the mechanic on this. “1000 Rupees just to hit with hammer? Even I could have done that!”.

“I have charged only 20 Rupees for hitting the engine with hammer. Rest 980 rupees are to find where to hit.”The mechanic replied.

A very eye-opener story for fresh graduates coming out from universities and want to join the industry. In last 8 years with Indies Services I have interviewed thousands of fresh graduates applying for the job. They come in with their certificate and many of them are very arrogant as well because of their education or schools or universities. But I could have found only a few who had belief in their skills and abilities and not their degree.

Industry is interested only in your abilities and not in degrees. Keep this in mind. Skills pay.

A guide to Manage the pressure for working professionals

Success is the result of our reactions to the events happened in our life. In this globalized world, challenges in terms of competition, survival and strategies are always there for working professionals. It creates pressure and pressure turns to depression when not managed correctly.
Here is a handy guide for working executives to learn managing pressure in constantly changing environment.

Keep away from negative forces

There are many people around you, who are just got birth to spread negative energy they have. They always will try to find problems in anything (May be you can appoint them as Tester or quality assurance engineer!). They will try to enlarge a small problem till the maximum possible level. They always will create hype of any small thing. This will put unnecessary pressure on you for small things well. So always keep yourself away from such people.

Plan your hour, day, week, months, years…

Planning is key. Plan in terms of goals as well as tasks. Set daily goals. Set long term and short term goals. This will keep you focused on the objectives you want to achieve and will help you stay energized. Also plan your tasks. Organize them in terms of priority and execute in same fashion. Try to delegate something to others if possible. This will let you reduce unnecessary load over you. Many times people are frustrated due to a huge pool of pending tasks and majority of them are either non productive or they could have been delayed for any number of days. Planning will help you avoid this situation.

Analyze the situation well

A situation is a status generated due to our actions done in past. So instead blaming others for any sort of negative situation, try to analyze them logically. Write situation on paper. Write the causes which make this occur. Divide them into positive actions and negative actions. Also write all potential positive as well as negative outcomes of this event. Connect the dots. And you will see a clear picture of the situation. You will learn what you should do in future and what you should not.

Do what you like

As you are being a professional, don’t forget that you still are a human being. You still have your likes and dislikes. You still may love reading harry potter, you still may love drawing on canvas, and you may love playing or digging pits for little plants in your garden. Do that. Do what you like. That will keep the mind fresh, refreshed. It will generate positive energy for yourself.

Avoid distractions and stay focused

Many sort of distractions will come across the road to success. When you are planning for some really important business mission, some time wasters may appear. If you cant see them as potential time wasters, you will miss the opportunity. This will create unnecessary pressure either because you want now to cope up with time you wasted or because you just got failed in something. This will again result in mental pressure and depression. So never let distractions take control of you or your resources and stay focused on what you are doing and what you want to do.

Don’t create long term comfort zones for you

This is again a basic human nature. We like doing things in which we are comfortable. At leadership positions, you will be required to do many things. You will have to solve different sort of problems every day. In this case if you just get habituate to a particular work it may be harmful for you in future. This will create comfort zone for you and lastly when you get some serious challenge and you fail coming out of your safety zone, it will become a serious issue for you.

Get attached with your family and friends

Remember that along with a boss, you are a husband, wife, friend, mother, child and many other roles. As a programmer you are going to get pressure, and by all other means you will get relaxed. Yes, quality time spent with your family and friends with help you a lot getting out of pressure which resulted into depression.

Don’t get compromised with your values

You have been bought up by your parents, society, religion and country, every social entity has their own culture, own values. Don’t compromise with your values. Compromising with values may get you towards success but not towards mental peace.

Be confident

Being confident about your abilities is the key. Doubting your skills, knowledge and team will again result in pressure. Be confident and fight against the every challenge you face in your life.

Be prepared

In spite of applying all these strategies, be sure that you will get some pressure in work. Be prepared for that. Always. Have approach of Come What May…

150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda

12th January 2012 to 12th January 2013 is going to be celebrated as 150th birth anniversary year of Swami Vivekanand- The youth icon of India.

It was the time of British empire in India when he born in the year 1863. During his short life of 39 years not only he convinced the whole world with the knowledge and spirituality of India, but also envisioned the brighter, stronger and free India coming out from the darkness of thousand years of foreign attacks and slavery. No one can deny that it was his thoughts and vision which motivated thousands of Indian leaders and freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhashchandra Bose and many others. And not only for freedom struggle, his thoughts have been charging and motivating thousands and lacks of people to struggle, to lead, to change and to win till date. Take any name from vikram sarabhai to APJ Kalam to Anna Hazare, every successful person in India has his/ her roots of motivation in the thoughts of Swami Vivekanand.

What was there behind this affect of Swami Vivekananda’s words? Even he openly accepted “I am not saying anything new, these all are from the Ved, Upnishad and other ancient Indian scriptures”. Swami Vivekanand invoked the huge collection of knowledge and thoughts and thus invoked whole country and specially youth. His way of representation, great command on knowledge and languages, magical eyes and voice and above them all, truth and uniqueness between thoughts and deeds were enough capable to adore any individual towards him.
In this of 150th birth year of swami Vivekananda let’s remember few of the greatest words which swami Vivekananda considered most important for human being.

1) Fearlessness: He said much on this. In fact he considered this word as the abstract of the Ved and Upnishads. Only thing causing all the problems to a human being is fear. Once you through it out one will conquer the world.

2) Sacrifice: Swamiji considered this as a national ideal of India. According to him happiness is in giving up and not enjoying. He also extends that though the person who give is always big, one should always privilege the taker because of whom the donor can get a chance and joy of giving. He considers sacrifice as the tool which helped India build her strong base of culture.

3) Service: Along with Sacrifice he considers Service as another national ideal of India. Sacrifice and service together helped India survived in most turbulent time.

4) Spirituality: The definition of spirituality is not ritualism for swami Vivekananda. He boldly said “I don’t believe in a religion which can’t feed a hungry human being”. For him spirituality was the base of healthy and happy leaving.

It has been said the writings of Swami Vivekananda is such huge that it is a work of 1500 years to understand and implement it in practice. But definitely this day is coming soon.
Wish you all a Brave, Courageous and Religious greetings of this day and year. Lets join the hands to spread Swami Vivekanand’s words.

Problems faced by Micro and small enterprises of Small towns

Small and medium enterprises are facing many challenges to grow ahead and specially when they are based in small towns of India where they will face many challenges due to culture of work. Here are few of the problems which small industries face in small towns and they themselves are solutions as well.
  • Lack of skills and on job training programs for employees
Normally a bunch of employees join to gather in medium or mega enterprises so they feel it easy to organize induction program and training program. In micro and small enterprises hardly 1 to 3 persons join at a time so it becomes infeasible to organize a dedicated training program for the company. As the company is small they may be finding it hard to attract skilled people. Due to small size companies are reluctant to spend on training and hence skill development. Due to lack of skills companies could not grow high. This is a poison circle which organization must have to break in order to sustain and grow.
  • Irregularity and attendance
  • Absence of goals for employees
  • Poor deadlines and hygiene
  • Etiquette and manners
  • Poor in dressing
  • Poor English
  • Limited presentation skills
  • Lack of planning in every area of work
  • Long delays in replying letters and taking decisions
  • Not enough customer orientation
